The Maharanas lived and administered their kingdom from this palace, thereby making the palace complex an important historic landmark.

Pichola lake is world famous for its picturesque beauty and scenic surrounding. It is an artificial freshwater lake, created in the year 1362 AD, named after the nearby Picholi village. It is one of the several contiguous lakes, and developed over the last few centuries in and around the famous Udaipur city. It is the central nerve of the city. It is the setting for many tourist attractions and romantic sunsets.

Saheliyon-ki-Bari is a major garden and a popular tourist space in Udaipur. It lies in the northern part of the city and has fountains and kiosks, a lotus pool and marble elephants. It was built by Rana Sangram Singh. It is also known as the Garden or the Courtyard of Maidens.

Jag Mandir is a palace built on an island in Lake Pichola. It is also called the "Lake Garden Palace". Its construction is credited to three Maharanas of the Sisodia Rajputs of Mewar kingdom.
