Batu Caves (en-route)

Begin the day trip heading to pewter workshop. This material, made of copper, tin and lead, is a flexible material by which craftsmen for hundreds of years have used to make products limited only by the human imagination. You can, for example, see the largest pewter beer jug in the world. One of the most spectacular sights in all Malaysia, the Batu Caves. High on a sacred hill sit this series of grottoes and galleries: the most famous Hindu sanctuary outside India. To reach the interior of the caves, you'll have to climb 272 steps: but this effort is worth it, with the caves themselves lined with sculptures of Hindu gods and goddesses, each one stunning in its careful ornamentation. Then, as we descend again we'll learn about the story of the great Murugan golden statue. This colossal sculpture of the god of war and victory, 42 metres high, bears a miraculous story, constructed as it was upon hilly terrain. A marvel in itself!
